What Type Of Water Heater Do I Have?
Power Vent Model
One of the biggest ways to tell is if you have a motor like the one in the picture on the top of your water heater. Another way to tell would be if your water heater has to be plugged into an outlet. Power vent models require electricity to run the motor to get rid of the exhaust fumes.
Chimney Vent
Chimney vented water heaters use metal venting and that is the easiest way to tell if this is the type of water heater you have. As the picture to the right shows, this is a clear example of a chimney vented water heater.
Tankless Water Heater
These water heaters are the size of a suitcase and are mounted to your wall. This style of water heater gives an endless supply of hot water, meaning if you're a larger family, you will never run out!
Electric Water Heater
Electric water heaters have a wire going into the front or the top of the water heater, which feeds the electricity to power the elements to be able to heat the water.
